Origins: At the age of eight,
young Leonardo Fantini began a career as one of the Greatest
Tenors (+5) the world has ever known at a recital in Boston,
Massachusetts. Born the son of local political figure and businessman,
Theodore Fantini and his wife Harmonia, Leonardo was a disappointment
to his no-nonsense father for his love of music and his Utter
Disinterest (Business) (-5) in the family business. Encouraged
by his shut-in of a mother, he began performing at every opportunity.
While his father never approved of his son’s pursuit of music, Theodore
Fantini paid for a Classical Education (+2) at several
of Europe’s most prestigious universities, where Leonardo made began
creating a network of friends and contacts that would last him a lifetime.
Leonardo never received more than the equivalent of a few Bachelor’s
degrees, he amassed a wealth of knowledge on many subjects becoming
an accomplished Fencer (+3), a determined Orator
(+2) with a Rapier Wit (+2) and a capable Acrobat
(+2); his personal Charm (+3) and talent for
the gentle arts of Seduction (+5) were likewise well
exercised in the great capitals of Europe (it was here he also discovered
he Could Not Cook (-2) to save his life); it was in
Italy however, at the seat of his ancestral home that he became fascinated
with the work of his namesake; Leonardo DaVinci, and developed an
equal interest in the Sciences (+3) and the Arts
(+3). He returned to Boston after a few years abroad and secured
himself a place with the Boston Opera and turned his love of music
into a thriving enterprise, as he quickly became one of opera’s rising
stars. Leonardo continued his experiments and activities, initially
for the purpose of Creating Intricate and Baroque Devices (+4)
to amuse and entertain his ailing mother, he soon found ways to repay
his father for his past indulgences by revolutionizing the assembly
line procedures at his manufacturing plants. During his first European
tour, he received the news that his beloved mother had passed away,
and that the stress had laid his father at death’s door as well. Returning
home too late to attend his father’s passing he discovered he was
now the sole beneficiary of his a vast business empire. Despondent
he turned to Spiritualism (+2) to console himself in
the hopes of being reunited with his mother. It was during a séance
with one Madame Soleil that he discovered the reason why his mother
had been a cloistered wreck for many years when he was physically
attacked by a vengeful spirit from beyond the grave, the servant of
a powerful man whom his mother had spurned many years before. Horrified
at his discovery, he went to confront the terrible Mister Thaddeus
Scratch, who turned out to not only be a powerful black magician,
but also the heart of a criminal network that stretched across the
world. It seemed Scratch had claimed his parent’s souls and refused
to allow them to rest in peace. Left for dead, he was discovered by
Madame Soleil and her servant Vanessa, and nursed back to health.
Upon recovering he contacted Oliver Green-Smythe, an old college friend
who he asked to become the director of his father’s vast holdings
(A move predicated on Leonardo’s utter Incompetence with Finances
(-4)). He educated himself in the ways of the Criminal
Mind (+2) , the arts of Prestidigitation, Stealth and
Escapology (+3) and the art of the Gun (+1),
and after developing a colorful persona, that of Count Prospero; he
began to whittle away at the edges of Mister Scratch’s empire of crime;
having vowed to destroy the man and free all who have suffered from
his grasp. With the recent return of blatant magic to the world, he
has on occasion aided his old college chum, Max Atlas, Jr. in his
escapades, and remains a silent investor in the Atlas Trading Company.
